iPhone Location Testing Without Jailbreak or Hardware Dongles | WLOC Setup and Recovery
This guide explains a software-based iPhone location-testing workflow that does not require jailbreaking the device or attaching a Lightning/USB-C GPS dongle. It is intended for app testing, map demonstrations, automation checks, and research on devices you own or are authorized to test.

iPhone location results may combine GPS, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular information. A network-based test therefore cannot guarantee that every app will display the same location, especially outdoors where strong satellite positioning is available or when an app performs its own integrity checks.
1. What this method actually does
The WLOC workflow processes selected Apple network-location responses and writes test coordinates that supported apps may read. It does not physically generate a new GPS signal, modify the iPhone hardware, or permanently change the device.
Because iOS and individual apps can use multiple location sources, results vary by environment. Treat this as a controlled testing method rather than a universal location override. Apple explains the broader role of Location Services in its Location Services and privacy documentation.

3. Requirements and test environment
- An iPhone or iPad that you own or have permission to test.
- Shadowrocket or a compatible tool that supports modules and HTTPS decryption.
- A working internet connection and a valid configuration for your own network.
- The WLOC module, the Set Location shortcut, and the Restore Location shortcut.
- A record of the real location before testing, so recovery can be verified.
A US Apple Account is only relevant if it is needed to download a particular app in your App Store region; it is not a technical requirement of iOS Location Services itself.
4. Install the WLOC module
- Open Shadowrocket and go to the module-management screen.
- Add the WLOC module URL.
- Download the module and confirm that it is enabled.
- Review the module source before installation and remove it when testing is complete.

5. Generate and trust the local CA certificate
- In Shadowrocket, open the active configuration and enter HTTPS Decryption.
- Generate a new CA certificate and follow the iOS profile-installation prompt.
- Open Settings → General → About → Certificate Trust Settings.
- Enable full trust only for the certificate you generated for this test.
- Return to Shadowrocket and enable HTTPS Decryption for the required hostnames.
A locally trusted CA can inspect encrypted traffic covered by its rules. Never install a certificate supplied by an unknown person, never share its private key, and disable or remove it after use. See Apple's certificate trust guidance.
6. Add the two iOS Shortcuts
- WLOC Set Location shortcut — writes the selected test coordinates.
- WLOC Restore Location shortcut — clears the saved coordinates so real location can be used again.
Before running any imported shortcut, open it and review every action, network request, and input. Shortcut links can change or become unavailable, so import only when the displayed actions match the purpose described here.
7. Run a controlled location test
- Connect Shadowrocket using your normal, authorized configuration.
- Choose a location in Amap/Apple Maps or use the WLOC web setup page.
- Share the selected location to the WLOC Set Location shortcut, or enter the coordinates manually.
- Wait for the shortcut to confirm that the coordinates were saved.
- Turn Location Services off and on once, or reopen the non-critical test app.
- Compare the result in a map or weather app. Do not test emergency, banking, transport, attendance, identity, or safety-critical services.
8. Restore the real location
- Run the WLOC Restore Location shortcut or clear the saved coordinates on the web page.
- Disable the WLOC module and HTTPS Decryption when they are no longer needed.
- Turn Location Services off and back on.
- Restart the affected app; restart the iPhone if the cached result remains.
- Check Apple Maps and another trusted app to confirm that the real location has returned.
9. Troubleshooting
The shortcut reports success, but the location does not change
Confirm that the module is enabled, HTTPS Decryption is active, and the generated certificate is trusted. Then test indoors or in a weaker GPS environment. A strong satellite fix or an app-specific check may override the network result.
Some apps change location while others do not
This is expected when apps use different combinations of GPS, network data, cached data, motion information, account region, or server-side checks. Do not repeatedly reinstall profiles or certificates to force a result.
The device remains on the test location
Run the Restore Location shortcut, clear saved coordinates, disable the module, toggle Location Services, and restart the device. Remove the local CA certificate if you have finished testing.
The module or shortcut link does not open
